Strategy Implementation Coaching
After a thoughtful and engaged strategy formulation, you are observing that the focus of key execution leaders quickly shifts back to the many demands of daily operational execution, leaving at risk the successful implementation of key strategic initiatives. You are further concerned about the dominance of short term considerations in the dialogue you have with key members of your team or their direct reports, observing a lack of true strategic foresight.
Mystrategysource can act as a support system for your Execution Leaders to ensure that Strategy remains top of mind and their ability to recognize, articulate, and act on strategic challenges and opportunities grows. Periodic Strategy Implementation Coaching sessions with individual Execution Leaders will help them remain focused on their task and prepare them for significant updates to Management or the Board
As you identify select candidates for Strategy Implementation Coaching we will develop an overall scope and timing guideline. The idea is to be selectively supportive without “doing the work” for the Execution Leaders. We can agree on a confidential coaching approach (no feedback regarding their progress) or a transparent approach.
Fundamentals of Strategy – Small Group Training
You have identified High Potential Managers in your organization to step into essential leadership roles in the near future. Their historical success has been based on excellence in operational or sales roles and you are concerned that the expanded role may require more of a strategic mindset than they are currently brining to the table. Your commitment to development of internal talent guides you towards closing the gap rather than looking for a more complete external candidate.
Through a “pro-forma” strategic planning exercise (accelerated process with moderated degree of research, analysis, and ideation) the participants of a small group training program are introduced to the essential dimensions of strategy. As they go through the process they develop a deeper understanding of their own business area while broadening their organizational horizons through the updates provided by their peers.
Depending on the specific need of the organization a multi-step program will be designed, typically involving select half-day meetings and a series of after hours working sessions to share progress on prior assignments and deepen the understanding through shared learning. This approach might be akin to an in-house MBA course on strategy with the added benefit of discussing actual organizational content. If the learning culture and technology of the organization allow for remote learning, the process can be conducted through virtual meetings to reduce logistical effort and expenses.
Success in the Boardroom – Enhanced Executive Communication
You have noticed that Board or Executive Leadership discussions are at times hampered by a suboptimal quality of the presentations being provided during these meetings (too detailed, not sufficiently decision oriented, too much focus on process vs. outcomes, etc.). You recognize that the time in the Boardroom is one of the most critical corporate resources and want to enable better and shorter discussions through more targeted presentations.
Through a proven two day communications class, a group of up to 16 employees will learn best practices in designing, preparing, and delivering presentations at the Executive and Board level. Using real-life organizational topics, the class covers
- Tangible tools to understand your audience and their communication needs/preferences
- Overview and extensive practice in designing logical and decision oriented presentation outlines
- Basics of graphical design for quantitative and qualitative information delivery
- Actual creation of management presentations with delivery rehearsal and feedback
The two day workshop is held onsite and typically on two consecutive days (sometimes Friday and Saturday to minimize the stress on schedules). The class is most effective with 12-16 participants who either deliver Boardroom level presentations or help create them (training support resources in the same session can help create a consistent understanding of the new language and practices).
