Digital County Initiative

Prepare your County for the realities of a digital future

While County Government may seem to be an unlikely place to discuss adoption of technology driven change, we have achieved just that. The Digital County effort was born in 2018 out of a conversation with Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach and with the generous support of the Wisconsin Counties Association we were able to bring representatives of 12 Wisconsin Counties together with technology experts in AI, Blockchain and IoT to discuss 14 use cases over three different events. Even with limited time available for each group, we pushed the thinking of how County services can be reimagined through the lens of disruptive technologies. In Phase 2 (2019) I have been working with two Wisconsin Counties on their Digital Vision and on further advancing a use case towards implementation readiness. With near endless opportunities to look at new technology solutions, Counties (like all other organizations) need a navigational roadmap to help direct and prioritize these efforts. We developed the Digital Vision through a community centric process involving stakeholders from Government, Business, Nonprofit and Educational institutions and the wealth of perspectives have led to the articulation of visions, aspirations, guiding principles and initial roadmaps.
